These programmes of support have been designed to help children and young people learn a range of skills that will help them to grow socially and emotionally and in terms of their learning, and will support you, as a school, in nurturing their overall development.

Description

Coping CAT is an evidence-based, cognitive behavioural therapy intervention programmes that helps children recognise and understand anxious feelings and develop strategies to cope with anxiety-provoking situations. Coping Cat is ideal for children aged 7-12 years. The programme involves a mixture of  learning opportunities, practical tasks and homework activities.

Delivery

Small group or individual, this programme can be tailored to meet your needs, but requires a minimum of 8 x 1 hour sessions, with a parental/carer information sharing session an option too. Pre- and post-evaluation measures are used, as are bespoke in-session evaluation measures.

Cost

£1250 – £1350 (individual / group) – based on an 8 (+1 parent/carer) session programme, with pre-post measures, in-session measures, and a brief summary report.

Description

The CAT Project is ideal for young people aged 8-16 years. The programme involves a mixture of  learning opportunities, practical tasks and homework activities.

Description

Lego-based therapy is an evidence-based skill-building approach using Lego play. Using the structured and predictable nature of Lego, Lego-based therapy attempts to improve a range of social interaction and communication skills including, starting verbal interactions, sustaining interactions, willingness to participate in organised games, greater awareness of feelings and behaviour, and the ability to solving problems.

Delivery

Our assistant educational psychologist will work alongside an identified staff member providing up to 12 hours of bespoke support to set up, deliver, and evaluate a Lego-based therapy intervention. Ideal for small groups up to 4.

Cost

£850 – funding via Pastoral Support Plans (PSPs) can be used for this intervention.

Description

This approach offers targeted support to children who are vulnerable and present with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. In this approach, the facilitator uses Lego to guide a child (or small group of children) to build Lego, whilst offering help and support where appropriate. The playfulness and interactivity between the adult and child are key in developing a range of social-emotional skills to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

Delivery

Our assistant educational psychologist will work alongside an identified staff member providing up to 12 hours of bespoke support to set up, deliver, and evaluate the intervention.

£850 – funding via Pastoral Support Plans (PSPs) can be used for this intervention.

Description

It is a flexible, fun and engaging CBT programme for children and young people (aged between 8-16 years) with social, emotional and / or behavioural difficulties, including those with autism. A programme that develops social and emotional resilience through thinking skills, it helps participants to develop cognitive skills by teaching them the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour; how to stop, think and plan before acting; how to solve social problems; how to co-operate with others in learning tasks and how to make good choices.

Delivery

Typically, there are up to 10 sessions each lasting no more than 45-50 minutes, including a ‘set-up‘ session and ‘celebration‘ session.

Cost

£2450 – for 2 children. We require two pupils to be put forward by school. The sessions are delivered individually and are arranged to take place on the same morning or afternoon. Funding via Pastoral Support Plans (PSPs) can be used to fund this intervention.

Description

Circle of Friends, sometimes known as Circle of Support, is a powerful tool for inclusion. The intervention is aimed primarily at improving the inclusion of children with challenging behaviour, disability or social and emotional difficulties within mainstream schools. It works by gathering the pupils’ peers in a circle of friendly support to help the young person with their problem solving. This approach can be widely used with pupils who are struggling to find support or friendship. Circle of Friends normally involves an initial 60 minute whole class session, followed by short (up to 25 minutes) weekly meetings, with a key adult, with those who have offered to support the ‘target’ pupil, plus the pupil.

Delivery

Support and facilitation in setting up and running the ‘initial’ whole class session, followed by support to plan for the first, and subsequent, group sessions. Total amount of support is equivalent to 3 hours.

£245, includes materials and resources.

Description

A sensory assessment can identify how a child’s / young person’s behaviour is affected by their ability to process their senses. A bespoke sensory assessment can have several benefits, including: identify how sensory processing may be contributing to or hindering a child’s / young person’s functioning at home and school; develop a comprehensive understanding of the child’s sensory strengths and challenges in context; and develop effective approaches and interventions that are helpful, doable and solution-focussed. Often vey useful for children who have autism, and/or social communication and interaction difficulties.

Delivery

Typically, a sensory assessment is conducted by gathering information through observations and/or questionnaires (e.g. using the Sensory Profile 2). Where possible, assessments will aim to combine information from different contexts e.g. school and home. A summary report is produced and shared with home and school.

Description

Grounded in a cognitive behavioural approach, Study Without Stress is a group based intervention aimed at young people approaching formal assessments and exams. The intervention is made up of 6-8 sessions exploring the concept of stress and its impact on the body and mind, along with very practical strategies that can be used to harness feelings of stress in helpful and proactive ways, leading to more productive and positive learning and studying habits.

Delivery

This flexible programme can be delivered as either 6 x 1.5 hour sessions, or 8 x 1 hour sessions, dependent upon the needs of your school and pupils.

£1350, which includes planning and delivery time, provision of individual workbooks and evaluations (where relevant)

Description

A 4-stage intervention working on early fundamentals of language, including awareness of others, attention, listening and turn taking. It provides an irresistible invitation to engage in an adult-directed activity. Initially developed for autistic children, it can effective for any children who struggle to focus, sustain and shift attention.

Delivery

An introductory work-shop (covering stages 1 and 2), followed by demonstration and practice-based coaching opportunities. Then a second workshop (covering stages 3 and 4) delivered one and half-terms later, with additional opportunities for practice based coaching.

Cost

£525 – includes all sessions outlined above.

Description

Reciprocal teaching is a guided teaching technique, aiming to improve reading comprehension by applying four explicitly taught strategies: predicting; clarifying; questioning; and summarizing.

Paired reading is an evidence based method to support reading through developing understanding, building confidence and improving fluency.

Delivery

A practical, 2 hour workshop, for up to 10 staff members.

Description

Evidence-based approaches for the development of basic academic skills. Direct instruction is a teaching method and precision teaching is an assessment method to evaluate progress. They work well together for spelling, writing, reading (including phonics), and number skills.

Delivery

A 2 hour practice-based workshop for up to 20 staff.

Description

Using sub-tests from a standardised assessment, an assessment of a young person’s functioning in a range a key areas of their learning can be undertaken (e.g. early reading skills; numeracy; literacy; and maths problem-solving). A brief report will be produced explaining the results.

Delivery

Up to 3 hours, depending on the number of sub-tests administered.

Description

A card sorting activity completed with a young person to explore and recognise important factors in maintaining emotional wellbeing at school and factors that may act as barriers to this. This could be appropriate for young people experiencing, or at risk of anxiety related non-attendance; for young people who feel ‘isolated’ in school; for young people who might feel different from their peers in some ways, etc…

Delivery

Up to 3 hours, and includes a brief report on the outcomes of the activity.

Cost

Description

Individualised sessions to teach the young person about what anxiety is and why we might experience it, including the teaching of anxiety management strategies. This work culminates in the development of interactive, informative and helpful teaching aids such as personalised comic strips and / or short, animated video clips.

Delivery

Each session with a young person is up to 1 hour (plus planning time). The number of sessions is dependent upon the needs of young person. Typically, 3-4 sessions is sufficient.
