Why supervision and coaching sessions are important?

At this time, in this current context, it is imperative that schools support staff wellbeing for many reasons: to promote resilience; avoid staff ‘burnout’; reduce the possibility of ‘vicarious trauma’; increase wellbeing, etc… Supervision and coaching sessions, facilitated by highly trained and experienced educational psychologists, provide bring multiple benefits:

  • Develop resilience and wellbeing;
  • Support feelings of belonging
  • Develop problem-solving and solution finding skills
  • Increase feelings of competence
  • Reduce stress; avoid ‘burnout’

What is supervision?

The purpose of supervision is to provide a safe and confidential space for staff to reflect on and discuss their work and their personal and professional responses to their work. The focus is on supporting staff in their personal and professional development and in reflecting on their practice. We use a relational-based supervision model that has three core elements: developmental – support staff to build competence and ‘learning’; resourcing – supports staff wellbeing; and qualitative – to ensure staff are working within their area(s) of expertise, skill and knowledge.
