Description
Understanding the Adolescent Brain
Adolescence has been defined as the second most critical period of growth and change in young people, following on from the first impressionable stage of birth-3 years, in which a wave of rapid neurological growth occurs, followed by restructuring, ordering and organising of the mind to face the challenges of the subsequent years emotionally, socially and intellectually.
Educators are at the forefront of the development of children and young people, closely influencing their thoughts, decisions, and choices during such a sensitive period.
Applying very current and up-to-date research, (and modelled on the award-winning Baby Room Project) this 3-part informative and practical course, takes you on a journey through the adolescent mind, tracing the key behavoural and intellectual shifts that occur as a result of neurological changes during this sensitive period. The course aims to promote an understanding of the complexity of behaviours during the teenage years, implications for teaching and learning, and ways to mobilize your resources and expertise as an educator to influence outcomes for young people at this critical phase of their development.
